WHOLE FOODS MARKET BRINGS FARMER’S MARKET TO PHILLIPS CROSSING STORE
|

Sand Lake Farmer’s Market to Feature Local Farmers, Artists
and Musicians Every Saturday Beginning November 1
Orlando, Florida (October 16, 2008) — Starting November 1, the
Whole Foods Market-Phillips Crossing store will begin hosting
the Sand Lake Farmer’s Market. The farmer’s market will be
held every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the store’s
parking lot.
The Sand Lake Farmer’s Market will feature an array of plants,
fresh produce and prepared products from a variety of local
farmers, including organic tomatoes, fresh seasonal vegetables
and herbs, local honey, ethnic foods, breads, and homemade
soups and dips. The market will also feature local artists, live
music, a beer and wine garden, and a coffee and tea bar with
Whole Foods Market hand-pressed coffee.
“In the spirit of serving the community and supporting local
food producers, we are very excited about starting the new
Sand Lake Farmer’s Market at our Phillips Crossing store
location,” said Lori Rockenstyre, store team leader at Whole
Foods Market. “We are eager to bring these local farmers and
their products to this side of the Orlando area, and perhaps
even bring some of their products into our stores here and at
other Whole Foods Markets throughout Florida.”
The new Sand Lake Farmer’s Market is being organized by the
same group that manages the Orlando Farmer’s Market (which
takes place every Sunday at Lake Eola from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.
m.), and will include many of the same food, farmers and other
vendors. The Sand Lake market will also be open to all farmers
throughout the state who want to participate.
Dana Brown, now the manager of both farmer’s markets, said:
“The Orlando Farmer’s Market has enjoyed twenty-one years of
growth and success, providing a shopping opportunity for
residents in the downtown area. We’re quite excited to expand
and now share the market with an even larger community in the
Dr. Phillips area. And we’re grateful to Whole Foods Market for
partnering with us and making their property available.”
Interested farmers and other vendors should contact Dana
Brown at 321-202-5855.
Whole Foods Market is providing the space to the farmers
market at no cost and will not be involved with any of the
financial transactions or purchases. ”We’re not doing this to
make money, we just want to support our local farmers,” said
Rockenstyre. “It’s who we are as a company. We believe it’s the
right thing to do. In the end, it will benefit everyone involved.”
The 52,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market-Phillips Crossing
store, located in the Phillips Crossing shopping center at the
intersection of Sand Lake and Turkey Lake Road, is the largest
in Central Florida. It opened June 25, 2008.
